The District of Columbia lies at the heart of the Washington Metro area surrounded by Maryland and Virginia. Washington is comprised of four quadrants: Northwest, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest. The District is a collection of unique, diverse neighborhoods with varied housing options ranging from historic Victorians to colorful Federal row homes, sleek new condos to soaring lofts. While many well-established neighborhoods look as they did years ago, many parts of the city are undergoing a dynamic change. Many neighborhoods are experiencing revitalization of existing housing or new construction in the form of mixed-use developments.

Washington, D.C is home to the Federal Government, the city’s largest employer. The District has an extensive public transportation system including Metrobus and Metrorail; both crisscross the city and extend into the surrounding suburban towns. Many commute by car or bike. Capital bikeshare stations are located throughout the city. Regan National airport serves D.C., and BWI and Dulles airports, are within easy reach.

District residents enjoy the benefits of both city and national parks. Rock Creek Park offers residents green space, picnic areas, horseback riding, hiking and biking trails along with an amphitheater, planetarium and nature center. C&O Canal is another popular park providing both trails and water access. Urban parks and community playgrounds dot the city.

Washington, D.C. offers its residents endless opportunities: sporting events at Nationals Park and Verizon Center, The Smithsonian’s renowned museums and zoo, concerts and live theatre at the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage and National Theater, national monuments and memorials, shopping and world-class dining.

Washington, D.C. is home to several colleges and universities including The George Washington University, American University, Georgetown University, Howard University, Gallaudet University, and Catholic University of America. District of Columbia Public Libraries and Schools serve City residents.
